Demi Lovato coming to Cambodia
International pop star Demi Lovato is coming to Cambodia, with a free Phnom Penh concert on May 5 that is expected to draw more than 35,000 fans.
The concert, announced at a press conference on Thursday morning, is being organised by Cambodian telco Smart Axiata, in collaboration with Universal Music, and will be the final stop on Lovato’s Demi World Tour.
“Today’s announcement marks a milestone for Cambodia and Smart. We are totally excited being able to bring such a world class artist like Demi to Cambodia. When having announced the partnership with Universal Music last year, we had promised to make such events to happen in Cambodia, with this concert we deliver on our promise,” said Thomas Hundt, CEO of Smart Axiata.
Demi Lovato, who shot to fame as a Disney Channel star in the US before making the leap to a recording career, is popular for such hits such as “Let It Go,” “Heart Attack,” “Skyscraper” and her latest single “Nightingale.”
Lovato’s selection was influenced by a sustained campaign mounted by a local Facebook fan group - Demi Lovato Cambodia Fan Club - which has over 23,000 followers. The fan club has been asking followers to post an image on Smart’s Facebook page, requesting them to bring their favorite star to the Kingdom – with more than 20,000 requests being posted so far.
Demi Lovato herself posted a video on April 3, responding to the campaign, saying that she was excited to have so many Cambodians requesting her to come and perform.
“Let me look into my schedule and see what’s possible. Stay tuned,” Lovato said, at the end of the 20-second video.
Smart also announced Laura Mam, popular Cambodian-American singer and songwriter, as their brand ambassador.
At the same presser, the telco announced the launch of an unlimited music-streaming app called Smart Music.
The app, available only to Smart subscribers, will cost 30 cents per week for unlimited streaming of World, Khmer and Pop and Rock music, with all subscriptions free till April 30, 2015.

K-pop star Se7en and YG to part ways
[The Korea Herald]
It has been reported that popular K-pop singer Se7en will not be returning to his long-time agency, YG Entertainment, following his military discharge this past December.
According to news reports on Wednesday, despite the seemingly amicable relationship between Se7en and officials at YG, it appears that the artist has decided not to renew his management contract, which expired just prior to his military enlistment in 2013.
Although rumors of his potential future free-agency had circulated years back after it was revealed he hadn’t renewed his contract before enlisting, on the day of his military discharge YG officials sent a car to pick up the artist, which led people to believe Se7en would in fact be returning to the company.
As one of the nation’s largest K-pop agencies, YG has already promised fans the return of a number of its artists including the hallyu king Psy and mega boy band Big Bang, as well as the much-awaited debut of its newest boy group iKON.
It has been speculated that Se7en was skeptical over whether YG could even guarantee him a speedy comeback given its hectic schedule.
However, despite the decision for Se7en and YG to sever ties, it appears that there is no animosity between the two parties and that they parted on good terms. Although the artist is currently without an agency, an industry insider reported that there are a number of interested parties looking to snag the 30-year-old.
“There have been about five or six agencies that have expressed great interest in Se7en following his discharge,” the insider stated in news reports.
Se7en remained under the guidance of YG Entertainment since the very beginning of his K-pop career, after signing to become a trainee with the agency at age 15. After four years of hard training and practice, the star made his solo debut with the single “Come Back to Me” in 2003. Since then he has released numerous hit albums including his most recent, “New Mini Album Se7en,” which was unveiled in 2012.

Elgin Marbles: British Museum loan 'an affront to the Greek people'
The Greek prime minister has said the British Museum's decision to loan one of the Elgin Marbles to Russia is "an affront" to the Greek people.
Antonis Samaras added: "We Greeks are one with our history and civilisation, which cannot be broken up, loaned out, or conceded."
He said Britain's view that the marbles could not be moved was now invalid.
A depiction of the river god Ilissos will go on show in St Petersburg's State Hermitage Museum.
It is due to remain on display in the Russian city until mid-January.
The work is one of a number of relics acquired by Lord Elgin in Athens in the early 19th Century, now known collectively as the Elgin Marbles.
Ownership of the artefacts, once part of the 2,500-year-old Parthenon temple, is disputed by Greece.
It maintains that Lord Elgin removed them illegally while the country was under Turkish occupation as part of the Ottoman Empire. The items have remained in the British Museum ever since.
Neil MacGregor, director of the British Museum, said it was a "very big moment".
He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "This is the first time ever that the people of Russia have been able to see this great moment of European art and European thought."
