Tycoon Thong Sarath mastermind in Ung Meng Cheu's killing: Police

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Phnom  Penh police arrested Wednesday night the wife, and the parents of tycoon Thong Sarath as well as some people who work in his house for being behind the killing of Ung Meng Cheu who was shot dead in the center of Phnom Penh. 

In a raid at Thong Sarath's house in Chak Angre Krom commune, the police arrested his parents and other 12 people including bodyguards, murderers and servants. 

"The mastermind in the killing of tycoon Ung Meng Chue is tycoon Thong Sarath," said Phnom Penh deputy police commissioner Chuon Narin, adding that police are searching for Thong Sarath who is on the run. 

Thong Sarath's parents who couldn't speak Khmer language clearly were arrested just hours after they held a news conference to deny that their son and bodyguards were linked to the murder of Ung Meng Cheu. 

In the operation, the municipal police also seized six guns​ found the suspects' house.
